Documentary Release!

Sacramento California will always have a special place in our hearts.

Over 22 years, PAVERART has compiled a nice body of work with projects in every state, and California is no different. All projects are unique and our Sacramento Dixieanne project certainly is something we are proud of, 10 custom PAVERART designs created by 10 local artists. But it's not the PAVERART we'll remember.

What stands out?

  • The great people we've gotten to know, BEYOND the PAVERART.

  • The stories.

  • The struggle.

  • The possibilities.

We embarked on a VERY challenging project: Creating a documentary! We thought there was a story that needed to be told, great ART that should be celebrated. But there was also some hard realities cast as a backdrop that could not be ignored.
We held ourselves to a very high bar in terms of quality, worthy of the project itself. But there was one small detail: We've never done this before! Film-makers we are not.....or are we?

We are proud of the Documentary:

Beyond The Alleyways: The Dixieanne Story

While we are proud of the final product, it was more important for the people we celebrated to be proud of it. This documentary is THEIR story.

When Sparky and Isaac previewed the documentary, Dominic and I were blown away with their feedback. I'll paraphrase/summarize/merge their feedback to us:

"It hit me in the feels! Lets not just throw this out to Youtube. This deserves an event, a screening with the community. Can you guys fly out? We'll pull a panell discussion together, how quick can we make this happen?"

HUMBLING.

The Premiere Event for the documentary came together in only 4 weeks and we were thrilled with the turnout.

A shout out to Isaac Gonzalez: Leading the event organization and PR efforts, all pro bono.

CBS News Sacramento published a great 2-minute video on the project and multiple other stories were published.

When I step back and look at this project I'll always have a smile on my face. I admire the project leaders, the artists, community members we were lucky to talk with along the way. And of course, the entire PAVERART team who touched this project.

But the documentary CREATOR deserves an extra large shout-out: Dominic! Somehow, he figured out how to bring over 20 hours of video footage down to 22 minutes in a way that educates, engages and captures a story to be proud of.

The day of the documentary premiere was the day he finally turned on BeyondArt.

When BeyondArt develops over the next few years, we'll remember fondly how the early days were squarely focused on this project:
