It feels like we have been "delaying" the launch of BeyondArt forever.
Dominic started learning laser engraving technology last summer, while building a website and perfecting a product line. All was on pace for a fall launch, until Dominic and I decided to take the dogs for a walk.......and we discussed what BeyondArt could be beyond the nuts and bolts of business transactions.
There was something more intriguing than immediate $'s and cents: Telling Stories that the world needs to hear. And we had one right under our nose, or at least on the other side of the country.
For background you can check out Public Arts & Small Business: The Quest for BEYOND.
As the months went by, Dominic built out the Documentary, self-teaching himself the ins and outs.
He Edited, chopped, added, re-edited, in what felt like a never-ending loop.
Finally, something began to take shape. We started to say "I think we have something here!"
It was time to enlist a small group of people to weigh in.
He wasn't looking for tactical ideas, or editorial opinions. He (and I) were after something more IN-tangible as they viewed a rough cut. Something LASER FOCUSED.
We were after....
A FEELING.
A Gut Check.
An immediate validation of the following: Is this product (documentary) WORTHY of the community, artists, and leaders we tried to celebrate? In other words, VERY high quality, compelling story-telling.
We were thrilled with the feedback & validation. But we were more impressed by our friends in Sacramento, who thought the story was worthy of a Premier event on May 22nd (flyer below).
Dominic and I are excited to fly back out to California to participate in the Documentary opening and panel discussion that follow. I can't wait to see all the artists again and all the people who brought this to life.
I hope you enjoy the Documentary Trailer:
Beyond The Alleyways: The Dixieanne Story
